i.e. the ones pulled behind Tanks to gather up wire.

I'm told that they rotated so as to twist the wire into a sort of cable. Is that correct? If so, were they powered somehow or was it just a natural result of the phsics involved?

Any idea of the dimensions? Anyone got a photo?

There's a grapnel at Bovington (attached) - it doesn't look as though there's any sort of swivel arrangement on the grapnel.

Charlie

Thanks, Charles. About 4 feet long, say?

I now read that there was a release gear for the grapnel, but no details of how and where it was attached.

P.S. That should read "physics" above. I'm not a very good tpist.

I'd guess it was attached in the same place as the "Sledges" were.

I believe the grapnels were used to clear a corridor through the wire so that infantry could cross the wire belts. I've read (somewhere - memory fails me) that the grapnel equiped tanks were used in pairs to break through the wire then turn in opposite directions to open a 50-100m gap in the wire.

Regards,

Charlie
