Józef Kowalski did not fight in WW1, this information is not correct and I have no idea where was it taken from by the author of the article. However he did fight in Polish-Soviet War (1919-1921) and 1939 Defensive War. There is some controversy regarding his age, in reality he is probably younger.

That picture is appalling. Józef K. seems to have recieved a lot of media attention in the last years, so better images are available, including this 4 minute film with him speaking and historicals footage inbetween.
