In the program "The great War and the shaping of the 20th century" Part 5 Mutiney there are a couple of armored cars in film clips of the Russian revolution One includes a half track with a can sticking out of the rear. And some others i can't identify. the other shortly afterwards looks like it might be a Putilov-Austin. Can anyone help me ID them? Thanks in advance.

It is NO Kegresse!

It is armoured tractor Allis-Chalmers-Poutiloff, project of colonel Gulkewitch - only ONE built anno 1916 by Poutiloff Work in Petrograd with 76 mm Poutiloff-gun . Name "Achtyrets". It go no to war, was in reserve armoured batalion. 1917 new name "Ilya Muromez" and fight in februar-revolution in Petrograd. October 1917 - again new name "Krasnyj Peterburg" (Red Petersburg), go to Moscow, later to East-front of Civil war (by Kazan).

Ca. 1922 was out (technical deffect, no spar parts) - rermoured.

Austin is British! 2nd series. First Austin-Poutiloff built in december 1917 -  here is februar 1917 (2nd Russian revolution).

I took screenshots.

1. The first one seems to be Sheffield-Simplex...

2. and 3. Second one is interesting: Allies-Almers-Putilov halftrack...

4. Third one is Austin-Putilov.

Armoured cars are seen between 7.40 and 8.10:

I hope Ivan can tell us more about this subject.

Thanks for telling an interesting piece of film! I have to watch the whole series.

The half track may be based on the Kegresse track system. I have seen a comment that this track system was fitted to Austin Armoured Cars.

Charlie
