Hello everyone. I have to give a hearty thank you to this forum as a couple of weeks ago I found it & finally decided it was time to add something new to my list of things to do.
I've begun to build a 1/2 scale German A7V.
Wait... HALF SCALE A7V ?... Yes, I'm crazy.
I'm working on the drive system & tracks... hull should not be an issue (I picked a big slab of a tank to start off with) If this works out I will build a St. Chamond or Schneider in the future.
If you're a fellow tread head in the area send me an email.
I am working with the great forum "scaled tanks" to get my project off the ground and some friends & mentors that should have me up & running in no time! (2 years in tank time? )
Again thank you to the site host & moderators here... and the builders & researchers as well.
Hello & yes I am hoping to be able to carry a crew of at least two, three would be ideal so someone could man the mg's in back (paintball). Of course there will be someone up front to run the cannon & bow side mg's & finally myself in the center driving. I scaled it up to be comfortable, It should be about 12' long 5' wide & 5'5" tall. I estimate it at a bit over 1,000 lb. With me in it and batteries, drive, fuel, etc. I see a lot of WWII type tanks in 2/5 scale & the operators heads protrude through an oversized copula and they look like they can barely get in & out, so I wanted bigger... there is a possibility I might go to 3/5 scale (60%).
The A7V has a good amount of interior volume and the upper copula can be hinged down for cross country travel... making life much easier driving. There are other factors as well, large air venting on the top hull & a good amount of room for the drive system. I would like to have a few cameras & small lcd screens in there as well, for safety. I'm also doing a lot of thinking about getting in & out, best place for doors or hinged panels , etc.
I'm going to do a post now in the german tanks section.
I think this is going to be fun.
