So the US Army had 100 Mark VIII tanks soon after the end of WWI.  They used 10 for testing and the other 90 were issued to two battalions.

That would be 45 per battalion.

So how many per company?

How many per platoon?

What other vehicles were in the battalion?

Thanks.

I would say 3 companys with 15 tanks per company, 5 per platoon but that really a wild guess...

Ironsides,

That was my guess also, but that does not leave any for headquarters vehicles.
Also, in a square division, would it not be more logical to have four companies of ten each perhaps and five HQ vehicles?
One HQ tank per company and one in the battalion HQ? Again, just a guess.

Hi Mike here is the Specification for the US Tank Corps (dec 1918), it gives complete details of all personnel, although it doesnt include vehicles it does include HQ staff, Tank drivers gunners etc etc so should be of some use the section on Heavy tanks suggests a 5 tank platoon but thats as far as Ive got, hope its of some use to you.... there doesnt seem to be any connection to French organisation as I originally thought...
