Another cardmodel by Andriy Romanchuk - Jeffery Armoured Car No.1 1916.

I've changed the colour of the original model to a mid/dark grey since the period images seem to show the armoured

car was painted a fairly dark colour. If anyone has a suggestion about the original colour of the Jeffery car - I can change

the model colour fairly easily.

I've also recoloured the Austin-Putilov to grey since these cars were built during the civil war and they were painted with

whatever was available.

Regards,

Charlie

The last armoured car model - the Mgebrov-White on Landships II. There are other armoured car models on Andriy's website (allfrompaper.narod.ru) - these are

either available on ecardmodels.com (i.e. commercial) or, in the case of the Ba-64, out of period.

Charlie

The Mark I C5 "Creme de Menthe" Male model is on Landships II now.

Landships II seems to be having some download issues - hopefully these will clear soon (looks like a bad proxy).

New artillery article "Japanese Gun Markings" in the artillery section - link

Probably of not much use in Europe but there are lots of Japanese guns in the US and Australia.

Many of the surviving Japanese guns date back to WW1 and before.

Charlie

Wayne McCullough has had a "tangent" as he calls it and has created a cardmodel of the Junkers J.I ground attack, army cooperation sesquiplane.

For the aviation challenged the Junkers was the first production all-metal aircraft. It had an armoured "bath tub" to protect the crew, engine and fuel tank.

The same concept has been repeated a number of times - the Ilyushin Il-2, Henschel Hs129 of WW2 and the A-10 Warthog recently.

There are models of 4 different Junkers and the build instructions, which are downloaded separately.

Charlie

There are very good kits of the Junkers J.I both from Eduard (in 1:72) and from Wingnut Wings (in 1:32)
Both are relatively easy to get nowadays and make for a big, menacing , and colorful model.
Here's one from Paul Thompson on the WW1 modelling page:
Junk1.jpg

There are also a few books on this curiious airplane, and one survives in Canada and fragments of another in Italy, where only the armoured portion of the fuselage is preserved.

There was a fair number or armored airplanes designed in WW1 for trench strafing (most of them kitted), alas, I feel that they're beyond the scope of this forum!

Wayne's models have an unbeatable advantage over the plastic kits - they are free.

Looking at the image of the very nice plastic build I have a query about how well the plastic kit captured the airfoil of the Junkers.

The Junkers J.I was an early example of the Junkers "thick wing" designs.

Charlie

Indeed they have the utmost advantage! I'm tempted myself to try card modelling after seeing the French tanks PDFs. I guess it must be quite a challenge.
On the kits I mentioned, the representation of the corrugated metal surface is superb, I dare say flawless. So good that my Eduard kit is untouched until I can decently paint that soft-edged camouflage over those large wings. And just this year I got myself an airbrush...

Making a corrugated surface out of card is one of the most discussed topics for scratchbuilders. Harry Woodman (may God have him well suplied of plastic card in Heaven) devised a method to score good quality art paper in a corrugated pattern. But even he admitted it was a though thing to achieve accurately.

New article on the Trubia light tanks - tie in with the upcoming cardmodel.

http://landships.info/landships/tank_articles.html?load=tank_articles/Trubia.html

Any interest in an article on the Spanish use of Schneider CA1s in Morocco in 1922? - I found an article (in Spanish) on this topic when I was researching the

Trubia tanks - thought it might be interesting....

Charlie

New tank article on Landships II - Char de Bataille project.

These prototype tanks have a link to the Medium D article since 3 of the 4 prototypes used snake tracks.

I've also included a section in the Medium D article on the Char de Bataille project.

The Char de Bataille tanks, after a long and tortuous development, eventually lead to the Char B 1bis WW2 tank.

Charlie

New railway article - 520mm Schneider howitzer.

I wrote an article for the RAAHC (Royal Australian Artillery Historical Company) journal "Cannonball" a while ago.

I thought I may as well expand the journal article, which discussed the French response to the German Dicke Berta and

Willemgeschütze, into one suitable for Landships II.

Charlie

You might want to contact Arie Dijkhuis of this parish, as he drew a very good set of plans of the 400mm for Tankette many years ago. I have them scanned and while he probably wouldn't mind them being included, it might be best to check first seeing as he's a regular here.

Thanks Roger,

I've PMed Arie.

I've seen comments that Wespe had a 1/87 model of a Saint-Chamond railway gun - anyone know if this is still available?

Is it a model of the 400mm howitzer? - the few images I've seen of the Wespe model look like one of the 320/340mm guns.

Regards,

Charlie
