Same pic resides in the AWM along with a few others in the same theme. Examining the pieces closely from left to right we can see first row: 21cm Mörser, 15cm L/40 naval ordnance ( old patern with lateral recouperators), 15cm L/40, 15cm K16. Behind them are a host of 15cm sFH, another K16, and some FK16, and way in the back ground an 8,8cm K-Flak.
I'm not certain which tread you're referencing, but this topix did receive some attention a couple years ago. The 15cm SK L/40 (c98) came in two versions; an early, and updated model. They are distinguished by the recouperator tubes. The initial production has these pistons located on either side of the receiver( as in the second gun pictured ). The L/45 (c08) was identifed by a horizontal sliding breach block AND heavier over-reciever recouperators. After the improved SK L/45 entered service( 1908 ) some reserve L/40 guns were fitted with similar atop receiver recoil tubes by Krupp, and can be confused as L/45 ordnance.
Ah... I recall that article! I'm afraid it contains some minor errors in assumption. The last photos at the bottom were my contribrution. You will note they depict two L/40s photographed on display in Canada. The early example(c97) has the recouperators on either side of the receiver while the latter(c07) L/40 has them atop the receiver; much the same as an L/45 would have. At the time I thought the pics would lend clarity; apparently they have failed in that task.
in the second row Jack, aren't those 4th and seventh guns 10.5cm 98/09 feldhaubitzes or are they FH16's? also isn't the third gun in on that row a 15cm SFH model 1902?
