Great initiative. Hope they upload video of the process and results (especially something of the 3D mapping imagery) to the QPS YouTube account. And slip a photo or two onto their FaceBook page. Maybe a Queensland member could suggest that? Hopefully they haven't given away "publication rights" (though, with the CSIRO involved, that's possible).

I think it hasn't been posted before: http://www.facebook.com/WaltzingMephisto

If you're not on Facebook, this is the reason to sign up ;)

When you're not logged in, you see only last post and don't have access to two nice short films showing Mephisto and its story.

Well, the Australian constabulary have become a lot more sophisticated since Lucky Grills called it a day. But I think even Bluey would have noticed that the newspaper cannot spell the name of the location of its country's national memorial, and might also have wanted to know the extent to which Mephisto was "involved" in the first tank versus tank combat.

Anyway, interesting to see that Mephisto's destination is now a matter of conjecture. I was told that the AWM was constantly trying to prise her away from the QM. And lucky sods, the police officers who had the run of the vehicle.

The AWM has been trying to get Mephisto for many years - the harder they try the more the Queenslanders will dig their toes in.

The plan was to display Mephisto in a new location in the Qld Museum but the redevelopment has been pushed back because

of funding restrictions. There's no way it will go back in the glass box because that's been shown by experience to be prone to flooding.

It strikes me the present location out at the Rail Museum is a temporary fix.

I intend to take a trip out to Ipswich on Tuesday to see Mephisto - it's about a 45 min drive from my place.

The local press in Brisbane is owned by News Ltd (Murdoch) - the same bunch that brought the UK the "News of the World" - for that organisation

the story was surprisingly accurate.

Regards,

Charlie

Mephisto is at the Queensland Rail Museum in Ipswich.

The downside is that it is inside a huge plastic bag to provide a climate controlled environment around the tank. The turret hasn't

been reinstalled so it doesn't catch on the plastic. The tank looks great - but getting images of it is problematic.

Regards,

Charlie
