Hello,

I almost finished the GB modelli Obice da 305mm and I still have an interogation. I want to represent some shells near the gun but which colour are they ?

Anybody has an idea ?

Thank you in advance

The book on Italian WW1 artillery "L'Artiglieria Italiana" has some colour images of 305mm gas/liquid projectiles.

The base colour is a light grey colour with coloured stripes:

The asphyxiant shell had violet band with a white band

The tear gas shell had a violet band and white/chrome yellow bands. (see images).

I'd suggest trying the website bocn.co.uk (inert ordnance collectors) for the colours of 305mm HE, Smoke and Incendiary shells.

The de Stefano wheeled mounting was not only the carriage but a steel frame which was embedded in the ground. The cingoli were stripped off the wheels

and the wheels fitted into inclined channel sections. There seem to be few images of the base design since the wheeled part of the mounting seems to have

seized the photographers' attention.
