Schnieder Tanks; French Postcards
Permalink

I've attached several period postcards of these tanks.    I thought the clear deffinition of the camo patern might be of interest to model builders.

It's an interesting contrast between the French who photographed everything (almost as casually as the Germans), and the British who were frightened to death a chap might be carrying a camera at the front.

Bonjour,

It was not French postcards, but Spanish photos of the 6 Schneider Ca1 M2 sold, at the end of 1921, by French Government to Spain.

These photos were done in 1922 in Marocco. These tanks were used during the Rif war and were also fighting in Spain during the civilian war.

Some of there were modified (like Schneider n° 5) with 65 mm Italian gun Model 1917.

It is probably always the war patern of these French Schneider.

11 Renault FT "mitrailleur" (without machine gun) and one Renault FT TSF (without wireless) were also sold to the Spanish Army.

If Schneider's tank numbers are unknown, Renault's tank numbers are well-known :

- Renault FT n° 66776 (châssis n° 362)
- Renault FT n° 67319 (châssis n° 1289)
- Renault FT n° 67359 (châssis n° 1312)
- Renault FT n° 69093 (châssis n° 3094)
- Renault FT n° 70272 (châssis n° 4272)
- Renault FT n° 70273 (châssis n° 4273)
- Renault FT n° 70296 (châssis n° 4296)
- Renault FT n° 70305 (châssis n° 4305)
- Renault FT n° 70313 (châssis n° 4313)
- Renault FT n° 70340 (châssis n° 4340)
- Renault FT n° 73894 (châssis n° 2800)
- Renault FT TSF n° 68564 (châssis 5162)

These Renault et Schneider were coming from French military warehouse from Giens.

The Schneider's bild (tanks, spares and munitions : 6000 75 mm shells) was from 891 446,25 francs (50000 fr. by tank)..

1 113 349,85 francs for the Renault (92000 fr. by tank).

Informations from SHD SHD Vincennes carton n° 9NN3-734.

Bon Week-End - Michel
