Hi all,

I am restoring a lovely pair of Fernglas 1908 binoculars, and request the input of anyone here who is an optics expert.

I need the  answer to only one question.

Is the eyecup for an OIGEE Fernglas 08 interchangeable with a GOERTZ eyecup for the same type binocular?

The replacement piece is off a Goertz, the binocular is an Oigee.

Let me know your thoughts.

Greetings, Josh

 Josh,

I used to write down everything I could find on WW1 German equipment, but I grew fustrated and stopped about a year ago because there was simply to much to record!  I may be able to help you if you could post some pictures of the eyecups of each kind side by side.  And if they are exactly  alike in material, width, length, weight, diameter, color and mounting assets they should very well be interchangeable.  I for one Josh are looking foward very much to this restoration of a pair of REAL Fernglas 08's. Truly Josh you are blessed to have a pair of these very rare binoculars, I wish you the best in your restoration

I would also like to thank you ever so very much for answering my lots of questions post, indeed Josh you are the absolute best. I will take your recomendation for using the Kora A7V kit and will try to use your method for making poison gas clouds and flame columns from Flammenwerfers. Thank you for the e-mail address of the man that owns the FSF moulds, I don't want to insult you Josh but I am afraid I will not need it, for they have a Fine Scale Factory's Big Bertha.  That for the info about the Buetepanzers, and about Matador Models, I would appreciate  it Josh, that once the Fahrpanzer model becomes available, please make a post notifying me as well as everyone else.  Thanks again Josh for all the help, I really do appreciate it all!!!!!!smilebiggrinwink

Thank you very much for your time!!

PS: to the administrator: I would really appreciate it if you would not delete this post, I really want to thank this kind man and help him in the most I can.

 Rectanglia,

The first thing you will notice about this post, is that I am not yet registered.  Why? Because I need to know if I will be E-MAILED ANY OTHER TIME EXCEPT FOR WHEN A MESSAGE IS SENT TO ME WHEN I FIRST BECOME A MEMBER.  I will be busy this summer, and will probably not register until fall, I will promise not to post one thing again on this forum until I register, if you post my thank you note in the guest book to the kind gentlemen who welcomed me to this forum, a comment to W^D models German figures and a reply to FR73 about the Kora A7V model in; Lots of Questions.  I hope this helps you to find what I want you to post. Please Rectanglia, no hard feelings.  I feel reassured you will do this for me, knowing you are EXTREMELY KIND. Thank you in advance!

Thank you very much for your time!!

More found and released - I could swear I already released at least one of those before, but probably dreaming.  Is that all of them now?

As said in http://landships.activeboard.com/t53704356/help-needed/ there is a validation e-mail sent on registration. I'm not sure if you can invoke a second one if the first goes missing - I certainly don't seem to be able to trigger it for you.

You may certainly keep posting until you register (thanks for explaining that, I was starting to wonder about you biggrin) but as I have indicated, you will have to live with them going unseen until either PDA or I stumble across them.

P.S. To expand into what you were really asking now you have clarified your situation to the point where my tiny brain comprehends at last - it is customary to always have a valid e-mail address as part of your registration.  That is so the "forum" can validate your registration by having you confirm it back but also, after, so we can contact you should you opt to receive summaries of new topics or subscribe for notices of new posts in specific topics (there may be other communications mandated through the forum Control Panel, don't know, best assume it is compulsory in order to maintain membership) and optionally you can allow other members to see your address and to e-mail you: editable "Settings"

Email Visible to Other Members
Email Digest of New Topics

Of course there is no obligation to continually monitor the address though in this day and age most could manage that.  Except when they're too busy - happens to most all of us at some time.  If needed, you can change that e-mail address through your Member Settings, "Edit Profile" any time after you have dealt with the validation e-mail and your actual member account is fully enabled.

The aim is to help, not hassle Stormtroop - you will see the members here share the ideal, established since "day one", that's how we learn when in the end most are able to - sooner or later - contribute (to venture a rough taxonomy or scale) original "art", facts, new research/syntheses, challenging/enlightening opinion or just questions that set the rest of us thinking and usually elicit useful answers. And those questioners often go on to ascend the scale in turn. All aimed, ultimately, at accurate models with many a step to be climbed on the way, not all of us needing to go all the way as the historians/history buffs and restorers and collectors, etc. have a huge contribution to make too (and hopefully learn something in their fields in the process). Mere dilettantes like myself, not so much to contribute perhaps, but definitely "in the spirit". And doing what we can.

Fully join when you can, you know you want to - and there's actually little or nothing to stop you doing so right now, that I can see. Sure, you mightn't be that active for a while - although a little diversion from time to time helps re-focus on your main tasks, if you can be disciplined about it (or a huge priority-busting trap if you can't). The commitment now might help draw you back fully when the time is right.
