I recently buy the 6in howitzer from Resicast (a great kit one more time!) and as I was looking for pics to choose a finish and display, I remember the one on Landship showing a camouflaged howitzer with an officier standing in front of it.
Camouflage sounds french, soldiers wear adrian helmets, but I haven't read the french army ever use this type even if they have some 8inch for a time.
Does anybody have info about this pic?
Considering the uniforms it could be the italian front, but the camo looks french to me...
Could be in German camouflage - captured during the war, maybe March 1918 offensive (although at least one 60 pounder was captured in the Battle of Cambrai in late 1917), re-used by Germans and then captured by French and being inspected?
Thank you for your answer. I haven't think it could be captured gun, taken back by the French. It would be great to have more info on the pic A+ Gilles(lostiznaos)
From the uniforms & camouflage (which is British) etc. definately late war. But could be anywhere that the 2 armies served together Italy,The Balkens even Russia 1919 ! The only wat to trace it being to track the photo back. However The Western front the most likely - noting the vedgetation & the British soldier just visible over the barrel & probably just a casual visit between neighbouring units / troops.
Thank you both! It would be great to found the original pic, but I agree the crew couldn't be british. Belgium could be a solution, but uniform sounds italian to me.
