Not realy a military vehicle but in the same mould (snow instead of mud, crevasses instead of trenches) see this item on the 1939 Antarctic Snow Cruiser. Tritton might have been proud of it (and it even carried its own aircraft). This actually got built.

I actually saw the original as it drove down state route 9 though Natick, Massachusetts, on it's way to de-embarkation port. Rather streamlined for the day. Seems as if my father, an officer in the naval reserve, had met the good admiral on several occasions and was asked to join the expedition. Thankfully, he declined as shortly afterwards he was called up for six yrs active duty during WWII.
