Austrian-Hungarian artillery crewman

This is my first head swap for a 1/72 soft plastic figure. I wanted to make a late war A-H artillery figure for my Hat Skoda Mountain gun. The body is from the Hat Austrian Artillery Crew #8258 and the head is from the Hat German Artillery Crew #8109. The base coat is Vallejo German Field Grey WWII#70.830 and the boots are Mahogany#70.846. The helmet is U.S. Field Drab# 70.873 and the web gear is German Camouflage Brown. I washed the entire figure with Citadel Shade Agrax EarthShade and dry brushed the uniform with Panzer Aces# 338Highlight German Field Grey. Finally a last dry brushing of #70.885 Pastel Green and this finished the figure. I still need to do some touching up but here is the completed figure. My thanks to PDA for the uniform advice.

Good work! What kind of glue have you used to fix the new head on the body?

Thanks, I just used brass wire to hold the head in place and used white glue to hide the seam. Since this will be on a diorama the head is on fairly secured. Ther is an All Plastics glue but I can't remember who makes. One part is the cleaner and the other is the glue itself. I have used it in the past and it works really well.

For the figures that have been used for the conversion Super Glue "Ultra Gel" (Loctite Pattex or similar) can be used this produces a very strong bond with this particular plastic and doesn't leave the furry white residue, normally I would apply with a cocktail stick/tooth pick and then smooth over the join to remove any excess, test fit with a pin or length of stretched sprue if needed. I think that CA primer(heptane) is only necessary with greasy plastics such as PE/PP otherwise the CA is the same, Heptane basically a degreasent is marketed under the name Bestine in the USA.

However I wouldn't advise using a solvent on the Hät Heavy weapons set as it Will dissolve the plastic, this set can be glued with ordinary plastic cement, the Austrian crew are a different type of plastic so quite safe but not gluable with polycement.

Interesting. Seems that the local formulations of gel super glue here are different. All the brands I've tried leave the white residue, or worse, they don't stick to the plastic at all.
Wonder if I can heptane in any form around here. I was told that there is a new product marketed here to fix small cracks on plastic car bumpers that might help...

Thanks and I will send more photos as I get them done. I need to work on another figure and then the Skoda Gun. Your right Ironsides I completely forgot that Hat reformulated their plastic so regular C.A. will work without the Heptane. I will try that on the next figure. Once again I learned something from visiting this forum.
