Not sure if this should be under tanks or artillery.

An article, presumably translated from the French, has been circulated within the Gold Reef Scale Modellers' Club (Johannesburg) about the above-mentioned vehicle giving the history of the four FCM-built SPGs with 305 mm guns up to the destruction of two in 1940.  Drawings are also included in the article.  The author is the grandson of one of the final crew members and used his grandfather's diaries to plot the development and use of the weapon from the end of WWI into WWII

Anybody interested in reading about the French political machinations around these weapons and their development?

Tony

This is an alternative world/history scenario with a photoshopped image of a 305mm railway gun on a Char 2C hull.

Yes please - I didn't know FCM had built any SPGs.

OK - just seen Roger's post - lost interest.

Charlie

Sacre tres bloody bleu!

The Interweb snares another victim... wink

But don't let it discourage you from posting any other interesting titbits - there have been so many genuine weird projects that you never know...

You mean the FCM F1 - 12 ordered in April 1940.

Authors slag the Germans off for designing monster vehicles - I'm not sure the French were more rational - a 150 ton FCM is just silly.

Charlie

Although brilliant engineers, the French are sometimes impractical.  Having had three Renaults over the years, I can attest to this with deep feeling!

This 150t monster looks gorgeous - anybody got any sizes/drawings for it?

Wikipedia says:

Length - 10.53m : Width - 3.10m : Height - 4.21m

May be reliable since the article quotes French sources.

There are some sketches on the char-francais website.

Regards,

Charlie
