This was at the Tracks to the Trenches show at Apedale. I had no idea it existed.

Can any one shed any light on it's history ??

I know his grandfather was in charge of them in Egypt in the Great War.

The condition is amazing.

Blimey. I've just shown this to the memsahib, because I know she met the present Duke on a number of occasions, through her job (as a journalist).

"Oh, yes," she said, "I remember seeing that when he showed me round his garage."

"When was that?"

"Why did you never tell me?"

"You never asked me."

It's a reproduction. The Honourable Artillery Company own it.

Yes it's a repro on the top, but the chassis is genuine as I had a good talk with the driver Richard at the show!

According to the event brochure, it's built on a 1925 'Silver Ghost' chassis, which is much the same as the wartime versions.

The Duke's armoured car is fully roadworthy, if you look closely it has modern indicators and sealed beam headlights within the original lamps.  They have also fitted clear screens as a windscreen and in the door windows gaps, I presume to make life a bit more comfortable on the road.

At the show there was a chap complaining that the registration number was incorrect, but a quick check of the DVLA's website proves that it is correct, I assume the number of the donor chassis.
