Been thinking. A number of points have occurred to me about the mgs in the Mk V and V*.
As we know, the Mk V had a mount for a machine gun at the rear. In combat, was the gun mounted permanently or only when required? Since the Mk V had 2 more crew available than the IV, was the rear mg permanently manned? Tanks supposedly carried a spare mg, but was the Mk V's spare intended for use in the rear mount, or was it in addition to those fitted? In other words, did the V Female carry 6 or 7 mgs and the Male 4 or 5, and how many were manned ?
Same questions apply to the V*. The Male had 8 mounts and the Female 10. Was there a gun for every position plus a spare?
