Hi,

Got some questions about the A7V Elfriede tank

- Does anybody know the full story behind the famous pictures where it lays on it side? Did it happen during combat? Was the crew capture or killed? Where there a fight just after it flipped on its side?

- What color was on the inside of this tank?

- What color was underneath the tank?

Hope you can help :)

Thanks!

It happened during combat south of Villers-Bretonneux on 24 Apr 18. The tank came too close to a sand pit and toppled when the ground sagged. The crew fought on as assault party. The commander, Lt Stein, was duly killed, together with one other crew member. And one crewman became a prisoner of war. The rest returned to the German lines.

Inside colour was white.

Underbelly colour? Most probably a mix of anti-rust paints: green, red and grey. But that's only a guess.

Thanks for your answer.

Do you know if this story is described somewhere on the internet?
