Mortars, especially French, at Gallipoli
Permalink

When the 29th Divisional Artillery was reorganised on 23 August 1917 one consequence was the creation of a Trench Mortar group commanded by Capt T S Sayers. Under his command he had 3 French Dumezils (I assume the 58mm medium mortar), 3 Woolwich made 3.7-inch light mortars, and a 6-inch. My query is what type of mortar was this 6-in?

The French Batignilles Company (the manufacturer of the 58mm) also introduced the Mortier tranchee 150T that would fit the bill but was not introduced until 1916 so any suggestions most welcome.

Off the top of my head is this possibly a trench gun and not a mortar?

Thanks

John

I don't quite follow this, John. By August 1917 Gallipoli was all over and the Newton 6 inch was in widespread use. Have I not grasped something?
