Does anyone have the horsepower, wheelbase and tire size for the Belgian S.A.V.A. armoured car?  I know they were produced using the chassis of a 1913-14 limo, but there are seven models listed for 1914.  (My guess is that it would be the long chassis rather than the short chassis, which reduces it to three models.)

Dear Al,

These are good questions. SAVA armored car is very mysterious. I'm afraid there is no book about SAVA company, so it will be extremely hard to know which model was used to produce this armored car. What is your source of information on SAVA limos from 1914 (any books or articles?), are there any interesting photos? And, by the way, I think there are absolutely no proofs that these was more than one SAVA armored car.

Cheers,
Albert

I have the feeing that there were several SAVA armored cars, both with and without the turret.  I say this because of several images seen during my seaches.  My source is from The Autocar Imperial Year Book (1914) found on HathiTrust.org.  It shows seven different models . . . I would guess that he most powerful chassis with the longest wheelbase was used (as with the Minerva), but I hate to include it without further information.

Thanks for you comments.

Al

Al, please check this great blog: armoredcars-ww-one.blogspot.com/search
Look at comments by "gemsco" (the late Georges Mazy). He was probably the most serious researcher of WW1 Belgian armored cars and also wrote on our forum. His opinion was that there was only one SAVA armored car, but it looked different on a few photos we know of this vehicle because of modifications. I would love to have access to his articles he published in "Tank Museum News", "Militaria Belgica" and "Militaria Belgica Info", but these magazines (published by Belgian Royal Army Museum) are very hard to find, because they are sent only to "friends of the Museum" plus they are probably available in Museum store (but unfortunately there is no online store). I remember that a few years ago Georges wrote on our forum that he published a 5-page article on SAVA armored car. I think it was possible to receive it from the Museum after sending a request. Maybe we could try now? Currently I'm researching WW1 Belgian armor and I have almost everything I need except Georges' articles. If anyone has any of these articles, please let me know. Maybe one of the forumites lives in Brussels and he could go to the Museum store and check whether there are any magazines with Georges' articles. Any help will be greatly appreciated and rewarded with my short book I plan to publish next year (about WW1 Belgian armor on the Western Front only plus captured Belgian armored cars in German service, but with only short info on Belgian armored cars on the Eastern Front - this is less interesting for me). This book will be in Polish, maybe in the future, if there will be some interested people, also in English. It is sad that Georges didn't publish the book on WW1 Belgian armor he planned before he passed away. It will probably never be published.

P.S. There was also some other (older) Georges' article on SAVA in "Tank Museum News", check this thread: http://landships.activeboard.com/t62930177/articles-by-georges-mazy/
