The enduring symbol of Germany despite it being only invented in the mid nineteenth century and going out of use during World War One, and used by several other countries even today for ceremonial reasons, mocked by Heinrich Heine, and ending up being covered during World War One soldiers. All representations I have seen from that era show it covered, but are there any pictures of "exposed" versions dating from that time period? Also I note that there are plenty of versions of the Pickelhaube as well with different decorations, depending on who they were for.
