Can anybody provide information on what type of 6 inch howitzer this battery was equipped with at the outbreak of WW1 and by what means it was transported when in action in France/Belgium in 1914.
It is my understanding these batteries were initially equipped with 4X 30 CWT 6 in howitzers, and it was these guns that went to France with them. This was an old, and quite ugly weapon system. Later modernization resulted in design improvements; box trail, etc.
Thanks for your quick responses. Could anyone point me of images of these guns in action or being hauled - I am writing a biography of Gunner Horace Searle and want to illustrate the difficulties of using these guns in WW1.
