Machine Gun Apertures

On the old Landship site there were some useful stuff that I downloaded. Among this was the Guide to the A7V variants by Gary Zimmer.

Last night I was using this trying to identify a tank in a picture. I noticed that it had the Type C Machine Gun Aperture so I looked in the list and found five tanks that had this. There was also a note that it was only fitted to the right rear if used, so I looked at the one on the left and it was type A. That was confusing at that combination wasn't listed. I then started to look at all pictures that I had of A7V tanks and found that combination on the Krupp Armoured tanks. I had been to focused on the MG-aperture to notice that it was a Krupp tank I was looking at in the first place.

But I learned something from this search. The combination of A and C apertures on the rear armour was also present in the front.

So the note of it use only at the rear is partly wrong. The rivet pattern was also on the front but perhaps it is not a Machine Gun Aperture in that case. The list also missed that the A type was used together with the C.

OK. It is something no one will spot on a model but it might be of interest for those who have the A7V guide saved.
