What's Wrong With This Picture
Permalink

A picture has popped up in one of the FB groups I'm in. Allegedly it's by Hitler (it's depressing how many people just want to post about Hitler, whatever the group). A few people have said they don't think it's his work. I used Google to find more versions of the pic, just as a first resort of checking credibility, and the image can be found on Getty Images; which I find astonishing. I have spotted a rather large error with the pic. What can you see...

I spy, with my little eye, an anachronism.

The date of 1916 under the signature! Germany had no usable captured British tanks untill after Cambrai ..... 1917...biggrin

As such I would surmise its a fake...

There is also another dated 1916 with the iron cross decorated tank in the foreground, same style....

I would say a  fake for the same reason, but also its pretty poor work for Adolf...

This image appears to have a MKI male the other image a later model, MIV? female with unditching rail...

You could argue that these were painted later and 1916 is a title not an actual date...

Yes, the anachronism.

Also, the signature seems to be two different ones; the 'A' looks different to the 'Hitler'. And the '1916' is the same in both pics. What a weird thing to try to fake.

Apparantly no two signatures are the same on Adolfs art work, and his style is not his own (many artists copy a style or school) and what might be described as a competent "amateur" (at least by critics) and a fast worker producing three or four pictures a day to a good standard... so if anyone really imagines this is Hitlers art based on the signature alone...their fooling themselves...

 wink

I have to say I'm having real problems posting on this forum it just doesnt take, so I have to copy everything and try again multiple times untill it does...
