Images of Surviving 15cm Haubitze M94 & M99

The 15cm was an Austro-Hungarian howitzer designed in the early 1890s. It went through a number of upgrades but didn't improve over the

original mediocre performance. However, due to a lack of anything else suitable it saw service in the early years of WW1 until replaced by the very

capable Skoda 15cm howitzers. There are supposed to be two surviving M94/M99 howitzers in museums in Prague and Budapest but I haven't

found any images of them. Anyone seen or know of recent images of these howitzers? 

I've attached an image of an M99.

Don't know of survivors, but Ortner's Austrian artillery bible has a chapter on the howitzers, showing only historic picture. Some you can find here:

Thanks for that.

The Russian bloggers have vacuumed up most of the decent images already and they have Russian images of captured howitzers from the 1916 Brusilov

offensive. I like to try to put modern images of survivors on Landships II - sometimes you get lucky like the Russian 8inch howitzers at Warmeriville in France.

Hint - if you use Yandex - try the Russian equivalent of a search phrase it returns quite different results.

Certainly looks like a 15cm Haubitze M.94/4 - the elevation ring is missing although the mounting lugs are still present on the underside

of the barrel. It's an M.94 because the breech has a circular cross section, the M.99 had an octagonal cross-section. Also looks as if

the breech block is missing as well. My next challenge is to find a non-Alamy version of the image.

That's the Budapest one - so where's the one in Prague?

Thanks for the help - I found a couple of images of the Budapest gun which haven't been parasitised by Alamy - they will do nicely for the article.

The Budapest Military Museum is closing - they are on their summer break and will not reopen. The collection is being moved to a town

an hour away from Budapest.

Would be nice to find the Prague gun ...
