Another A7V in Paris?

Came across the attached image - the inscription says the A7V was displayed on the Esplanade des Invalides (runs from the

Hotel des Invalides to the south bank of the Seine). There's lots of photo evidence that the A7V "Elfriede" was displayed at the

Place de la Concorde - the armour had already been sampled and there were rectangular sections missing from the front and left side.

So which A7V was at les Invalides?

It's definitely "Elfriede" so the caption may be wrong (or it was there prior its exhibition on the Place de la Concorde). Here a comparison photo (by drakegoodman on Flickr)

That image of Elfriede is too early - it seems to be when it was transported back from the front.

I found an image of Elfriede when it was on display in the Place de la Concorde - you can see the obelisk on the left of the image.

The rectangular sections cut out of the hull plates can be sen in the image. My failing memory suggested the hull cut outs were on the left side but it's

clear from the image they were on the right. The image from Les Invalides could well be Elfriede because the samples taken from the hull would not be

visible in the image.

Found a better image of Elfriede at the Place de la Concorde and a Google Maps image of the same general location.

The chunks cut out of the side plates are fairly obvious.

Ok, this is far from beeing a scientific research method (the subject isn’t of historic significance either), but I love such questions about location of such random subjects very much. Thats why years ago I had even to visit the place, where A7V 540 was abandoned north of Wasnes au Bac and Iwuy. Crazy of course, but interesting as well !

Here a quick search on Google maps from my side and … Tadaaaa, I found the place (that is not intended to be taken too sereously !).

Elfiede was parked on its way from Garde de Montparnasse to the Place de la Concorde on the park at the corner of the Rue de l’Université et Rue Fabert. The building with the prominent parapets is barely visible in the background is called Restaurant Divellec ( ?) today and the two rows of trees is about the same today.

Just my five cents,

Peter

Correction : Elfriede was unloaded at the Gare du champ de Mars. «Notre chèr Tanker» has written the whole story here :

Bonjour,

Of course, it is well Elfriede, moved in 1919 in the Tuilerie park, for 14 Juillets's victory parade.

Armored plates was only cut on right and rear side and it is the left side of the tank.

See at the end of the topic :
