German 7.7 from Belgrade
Permalink Closed

Hallo again,

Here are the picks of German 7.7 from Belgrade.

All the picks were taken in Kalemegdan fortress in the center of the city. Now it is a large park where military museum is situated. The name Weissenbourg is just a German name for the city – Belgrade (white – town/castle). Kalemegdan is a Turkish name of the fortress, but as Prinz Eugen of Savoy was elected the first king of ‘Yugoslavia’ the fortress was rebuilt in a bastion system. The Baroque buildings are from the Austrian period. So Weissenbourg castle or fortress it could be called. But I think I owed some explanation of the terms I used.

So Peter the official version is ‘picks taken in Belgrade (Weissenbourg for Austrians) at military museum in Kalemegdan fortress, just above the Danube river, where all the heavy fighting for the city between Austrian and Serbian forces took place in 1914 and 1915. The Skoda 305 was probably used in the operations’.

I hope I’ll take some more picks as I return from some excavation that I’ll do in Spain. Inside the museum there are other things of interest such as small arms, uniforms et c..

There are some other guns and Ft 17 tank to be pictured so I hope I’ll post those for you soon.

All the best,

I

Hi!
In my opinion the gun on the photos is not 7,7 cannon but 10,5 howitzer.

Cheers!
G.

Yes, the barrel looks more like 105 than 77mm.

That's good: the site lacks photos of this gun!
