In some pictures of Ford 3 Ton Tank seems to have a different rear hull length than in other pictures. I can't find any pictures on hand to support this statement, but here are two pictures from my little russian book, that seems to show two different types of Ford 3 Ton Tanks. One has the normal long engine-bay that we're used to, the other seems to have a much shorter engine bay. I wonder why...? There also seems to be numerous other changes in the lower picture. The crew compartment seems much longer. Note where the observers cupola is, and the length of it to the front of the machinegun position. Could the drawing be a hypothetical drawing of a tandem configuration? But then, where would those two ford engines go... Confusing!
Anyone know anything about this? As far as I know, all 3 Ton Tanks were the same, except the first one had a different gun-mounting than the later ones.
I know of no alternative chassis version of the Ford tank, as you stated, the prototype version did have a different gun and gun mount. There were experiments though with alternative tracks an track systems, as well as a version designed with out a gun, that was going to be used to pull artillery. Now I no the original version could and did carry artillery, but this version was the same in design, they just removed the armament. As far as the drawings are concerned, I have seen many variations of the Ford through the years. And few if any are truly correct. So to my meager knowledge, these drawings represent two different artist views of the same Ford 3 ton tank.
