I bought a random assortment of issues of the 'Tankette M.A.F.V.A.' Magazine off of Ebay. I bought them at a good price, the reason being I wanted the issue about the WWII New Zealand Schofield Tank. However, some of the issues I found a surprising ammount of WWI and pre WWI stuff aswell, so I thought I should scan it and post it here.
Have fun!
Beware, some of these pictures are rather gigantic! Very bad for slow internet, very good for the armor enthusiast :)
Oh, and check out this website about early armored cars, complete with illustrations. Apparently all information and pictures are from the "I Corazzati" book by B.Benvenuti, edited by A.Mondadori - 1976. I'm guessing this is an Italian book? http://www.geocities.com/pentagon/quarters/1975/armcar1.htm
I know that Simms had an alternate design for his Motor War Car, that had two revolving turrets, but that it never materialised. I'm guessing that Simms built the Motor War Car the way he did because it would have cost much more to built the turreted version. If Simms had built his turreted version, it would have been called the worlds first turreted land fighting vehicle! I really like the Simms Motor War Car. A model display set of all 3 of Simms vehicles, plus the turreted motor war car, would probably win many medals at model contests.... **hint hint hint**
Here's a color drawing... Most of you are familiar with this - When i resized it the colors got a little weird, so this is just for referene...
I posted an interpretation of the turreted Simms (based on original line drawings) some while ago. It is possible that the car was orignally built as turreted, or alternatively started construction as turreted and changed during the build. Here is that drawing again
Great drawings! Did those Tankette magazines happen to have anything on the "Rolls Royce" armoured cars?
I've been looking for photos, information, and plans and I know a they've appeared several times in "Tankette" but unfortunately they've run out of those particular back issues.
Mark, I have a number of old Tankettes (including the ones Vilkata has) and also including one with Rolls Royce drawings, but it's a later pattern from the mid-1920s, which is why I never bothered mentioning it before.
I'm interested in all of the Rolls Royce-type armoured cars. Information on these cars is so scattered and conflicting that I am trying to sort it all out in before I start on my replica. I won't even settle on the particular pattern to build until I see what information I can gather in the next few weeks.
According to their index, MAFV Tankette Newsletter has featured the following Rolls Royce articles:
(Issue.Period - subject, author) 6.5 Rolls Royce 1920 pattern armoured car, Dooley 6.6 Rolls Royce 1920 pattern Mk. IA armoured car, Hogarth 18.2 Rolls Royce 1924 Pattern Armoured Car (see 18.1, 17.4 and 22.2), Rue 18.1 Rolls Royce 1924 Pattern Armoured Car (see 18.2, 17.4 and 22.2), Rue 22.2 Rolls Royce 1924 Pattern Mk. I (Mod) armoured car (see 17.4 18.1 and 18.2), Rue 17.4 Rolls Royce 1924 Pattern Armoured Car (see 18.1, 18.2 and 22.2), Brunner
Ah, righto - well, the only one I have is Tankette 17/4, with Kerry Brunner's article, 1/32 plans, and several photos reasonably well printed. If you'd like to email me, I can scan 'em and send 'em:
