There are not a lot of WWI era model kits, but an unexpected source of donor parts is the AMT Beverly Hillbillies truck! It's a 1/25 scale 1921 Oldsmobile, but it has artillery spoked wooden wheels, a passable early 4 cylinder engine and running gear, a few kegs, stoneware jugs, toolboxes and kerosene lanterns. Scale could be jimmied to 1/35 for most of these parts. Quality out of the box is not the best, but beats scratchbuilding in some ways. The kit was originally released in the 1960's by MPC. It's out of production, but available in the US from http://www.mjvar.com/index.htm Just search for "beverly"-$9.95 for one, $36.00 for a case of 6. The wheel spokes especially need some clean-up, since they are molded slighty out of alignment, but the kit is a parts bonanza for the price. There are some pictures of a much enhanced built-up at: http://public.fotki.com/gkulchock/the_beverly_hillbil/ Just a suggestion, Andrew
True the Hillbillies truck can be used as a good base for scratch building, I also love to use 1/32 scale old Pyro kits, there are quite a few different types, and you can build a nice collection of parts really quick.
Also the old Arifix Old Bill buses and Fire Engines are a great source for truck parts, as well as the 1/32 Honey Pot MACK trucks, that can be converted into a nice 1/32 scale truck, all you need to do is back date it a few years, because the version of the model is 1925.
All the Best
