I found this auction on Ebay. It's for an old photograph from 1921, of a military guy standing next to a large tank.
But what tank could it be? It is not an FCM-2C. And, it doesnt look like any British or American tank I know of. It certainly looks French. Could this be the FCM-1A? The lines are the closest to the FCM-1A of any tank I can think of from the 20's or earlier.
It certainly looks more like a Char 1a than anything else around at the time - except that the Char 1a (FCM-1A) shouldn't have been around as late as 1921 (but who knows?). The uniform is interesting as being like nothing like anything documented as being around at the time. Of course the film emusion may be fooling us but it looks very light in colour. The cut is more or less British but the headgear is outre (but looks 'tankerish'). The 'dedication' or whatever (which looks as if it is standing in a gents urinal!) has an American like signature (it would be unusual for Brits to sign an informal note and include their middle initial) so it could be someone from the USA army doing "the grand tour". I think you've given us a mystery.
I think we should locate Omar Shariff somewhere in the Middle East. His appearance and uniform have a distinct oriental flavour.
The tank looks improvised and I think we should look into the direction of a RAF improvised tank on an early Dragon tracked vehicle. Note the riveted tracks.
RAF in the Middle East (iraq) used these vehicles from 1923, which is close enough. Fletcher's books (Moving the guns, Mechaised Force - I dont have any others) show several leads in this direction.
