Greetings,

Is the Australian Mk IV female tank in original paint/markings?

Hi Mark,

Unfortunately, no. The Mk IV has been repainted (how many times I'm not sure) but there is supposed to be some original paintwork on the underside of the tank. When I visited the AWM a couple of months ago I tried to get a few shots of the underside but couldn't get anything that showed up clearly enough. The name "Grit" was applied after a naming competition was held.

I've attached a photo from the AWM online collection which shows "Grit" without her name.

Thanks Mark,

What a pity. Was the original colour also an Olive Green or completely different?

According to the AWM, it was originally a brownish khaki colour. Probably something like the colour of the tank at the Brussels museum.
