Work in progress - Turkish transport
Permalink Closed

Trying to collect and collate more info on Turkish motorised transport. This did exist (accounts of the trapping and destruction of the Turkish 7th Army by the RAF and AFC describe columns of lorries being straffed and bombed). It seems that Turkey purchased numbers of the Praga R lorry (also used in some quantities by the Austro Hungarian army) but I can only find shots of them in KuK service. There is a reference to DMAG vehicles also being used - I think from some of the shots I have seen these were mainly staff cars. Photos are rarer than hens teeth. I have this one of a lorry supporting the Turkish army in Palestine. It may be run by members of the Asean Korps (but since the German general in charge was also the Chief of staff and effective commander of the Turkish 7th Army in 1918 the two seem to have been integrated). Can anyone identify the lorry?

This photo was taken during a military funeral. The lorry is carrying the coffin of a fallen German or Austrian officer!

Ottoman 7 th Army was commanded by Mustapha Kemal Pacha from August 1918 onwards and not by its chief of staff oberst- lt  Falkenhausen...
