Modelling 30mm scale Russian Putilov 76.2mm m/02 Field Gun

Hey folks-
I have decided to start building a Russian Putilov 76.2mm m/02 from scratch--I have a few years expierience in sculpting 28/30mm scale miniatures but none in sculpting a machine like this. I don't exactly know where to start, the designs seems very complex to me and I can't find very detailed blue prints for it anywhere, and the ones presented here at http://www.landships.freeservers.com/putilov02_76mm_info.htm are perhaps the best available, I just can't make much sense of them.

Also my meterials are somewhat restricted becuase I plan to cast it should it turn out well.

If anyone could help me with a few general problems to start I's be greatful.

Wheels-I'm not sure how to start, my first instinct is to try to find appropriately shaped rings out of brass and use them, but I'm not certain that the correct diameter is made...is there another solution for this? I would use balsa for the spokes as they are not exactly rectangular, but I can't because balsa won't cast.

The barrel seem simple enough though more photos would be great.

The toughest bit seems to be where the barrel meets the carriage, thee are lots of complex bits here and I'm not sure what is what and where the pieces start and end. The detailed plans link on the above mentioned page is unfortunately broken and I have had trouble finding pictures as this area is covered in most photos.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Morgan

Morgan!

A small snag: all the links to Putilov plans work perfectly fine for me. Which one is causing you trouble?
