British Vehicle Census 1918
Permalink

From time to time, I see references to a document that seems to have been compiled in 1918 to list all the surviving vehicles, MT at least, in service.  It must have been a census, possibly carried out in preparation for the disposal of surplus vehicles or for some form of accounting requirement.

Does anyone know what this document is called and where I could gain access to a copy?

The British army maintained a whole series of census documents listing all extant vehicles in the service. By the 1970s this was kept by REME at Woolwich having been computerised and known as FORWARD (I know this because one of my first jobs as a consultant involved being seconded to the MOD to try and squeeze some extra life out of the system which was clanking a bit by then). It would therefore seem logical that if the old paper or possibly card based list was retained it might also be at REME.
