Mother in camo?

Brilliant find, Mark! It does look like Solomon camo to me, as well. Note that Mother is lacking her steering tail, which would suggest a date early in 1917, prior to the Oldbury trials. I'm away skiing this week, but I'll definitely follow this up and report back. Why do these photos always emerge after we build our models?

It's a perfect example of Sod's Law. The one photo you need will only turn up after the need has passed.
I made a comparison of the two photos and your interpretation of a "jolly landscape in green against a pink sunset sky" is strikingly similar, especially along the top of the front horn, considering you hadn't seen it. Do you also do tips for race horses?

P.S.: Speaking of Sod's Law, this is the second time I've attempted to upload this photo. It locked up on me the first time saying it was an invalid file format and I lost all my typing. You say�something nice about the forum and this is the thanks! I guess no good deed�does go�unpunished.

I guess there are some advantages to rather indistinct black and white photos as references - they increase�the modeller's�scope for "interpretation".

One other interesting feature of the photo is that Mother's 6-pr guns have been restored, after having been removed�due to a shortage of�training weapons in the spring of 1916. David Fletcher has theorized that Mother was the model for John Hassall's painting "A Tank in Action", and it's interesting to compare the painting to the photo.

It's almost as if he's based the painting on a photo taken after the Daimler shot where Mother would be climbing the pile of timber. Very interesting... I wonder if there are more photos hiding somewhere which were taken at the same time?
