Looking at a copy of the back of a 1918 postcard (kindly sent to me by Alwyn Killingsworth) I see details of the monies raised by Tank Banks in Tony Pandy and Porth on 29th and 30th May 1918. The tank at Porth is refered to as Julian (no problem there) but that at Tony Pandy as 'Julian Junior' This is interesting (to me at least poor sap that I am). Could there be any link to the Whippet 'Julian's Baby'?
I believe the "tank" at Tonypandy (one word - I'm better at Welsh geography (sic)) was a dummy. I think I have a photo somewhere and will try to find it.
In my defence I have to say that I was using the wording from the post card. Having once in my distant youth had the task of doing some resrearch into the Tonypandy riots I do remember how to spell it (BTW the research was an excellent lesson into how strongly people will hold onto distant memories, one Welsh ex miner being adamate, to the point of threatening violence, about what he had witnessed as a child even after it was pointed out to him that he had been born six months after the event!
