WONDERFUL!!!

Is this is a kit or is it another one of your scratch-built models? If it is, then it is even more amazing: your best model!

Thank You,Peter for your kind words!
is a scratchbuilt model, the gun barrel itself is the only wooden part, main structures are from plastic card and some minor bits like wheels are mastered in resin from a single original. The original inspiration is Your beatiful c-zug appeared in the a gallery, a model I really like to see. Roger and Dakk helped me a lot.
That is why I say this fine site provided me a lot of support.
I greatly appreciate that.

Eduardo!

You really should do masters for resin kits. I'm sure a lot of people would like to see this model as a kit!

An excellent model, Eduardo. I thought for a minute there that you hadn't attached the rails to the sleepers but on closer examination, the base plates are there. I knew you wouldn't miss a detail like that. Really well done.

Very Kind, Mark Hope in the future(not inmediately) with some luck I will continue the ww1 gun saga with a flak type gun.
Artillery is indeed an almost  forgotten subject to many scale model factories.
Best Regards, Eduardo

Interesting, please tell us more! What plans are you using, or have you drawn up your own? And do you have anything on the 42cm M-Gerät?

Now, that's very interesting! Has he got any 'souvenirs' from that time? wink

Wow- such a quick response i`ve never presumed.
I am dwawing plans myself from many photos out of special artillerie literaure of my own.
It`s very heavy. But i even built a Krupp -Monster canon from 1867 only at this way-ad-
to my asthonishing measurments vere even exact by mm !
I`ll try to hang in some pictures from it -if i manage my scanner.
Also from my 420 mm Gamma Project.

To the question of souvenirs from my father : 26 shells of russian missils in body-
which couldn´d be taken out chirugial !

But i have many pictures of grandpa from the first world war which even try to put in here
-interesting because he was artillerie-sergeant and made fotos from french beutegeschütze

i try to put them in soon

so long

I'm very interested in heavy artillery, as are many others here!

Is the Krupp monster cannon the one shown at the Paris Exhibition in 1867? A couple of days ago, I started making a scale drawing of it; this is my progress so far:

It would be great if you could post a photo of your model!

Exactly !
This gun i builded 15 years ago for a buddy at work ,but when it was finished he said
it was much too heavy for his vitrin. likely similar to Kaiser Wilhelm I, who said to Krupp-
too expensive -so it was given to him as a gift.
I have the book from Rudolf Lusar :Riesengeschütze and schwere Brummer and another
very old one in which there are two drawings.
I try to put all i have about it on the computer - but it`s a little bit difficult.
It takes some time but I`ll do my best.

I`m back soon

Gerd

  Gerd!
fine material You provided, the gun  You machined in metal is a beauty, I appreciate that since I have started my profesional career as a metal worker myself, more than two decades ago.(Still I have some scarfs on my hands...)
Working with metal using old machinery like lathes, files and forge elements is nowadays an almost forgotten art...
The naval l but land-based gun is a very interesting subject, I will appreciate You to mail me about this piece .
All the best, Eduardo

mysterius for me.
Yesterday i managed to order an old special book about the " Dicke Bertha and her brother
Gamma mortar " . When I`ve got it i hope there are some sensational news for the community ! Will inform all as soon as i can.

Abandon ? Never !
But i must tell you all that the " old book " i proudly announced
is the one from Waffen-Arsenal -Axel Turra- Die Dicke Bertha -
I didn`t know it better since I got an E-mail from Roger in which
he told me from this book. -And i thought i`ve found the stone
of knowledge.
Therefore is a little bit of hope - haven`t just dig out the box
with magazines of weapons from 35 years .
Will do it soon as i can .

so long
Gerd
P.S. There are also pictures of the gamma mortar on the sites of WaffenHQ.de

Hello Eduardo !
Or shall i say by taking the time zone of shortenly settled down friends in Paraquay
" good afternoon "
I have struggled the whole evening with my scanner to put some -i hope ineresting
pictures from a great book of the Krupp -Dynastie . It`s very big and hard to handle
but i hope the result is enough for new sights of artillery build 10 miles away from me
in former times.
The marine-facturing ones are from Krupp- Gruson works, others from the shooting-range
of Meppen . Have a special look to the round -two guns armed tank turret with the
delegation of officials in front. It is how i recherched in the book of -Hans Mehl :
Schiffs und Küstenartellerie - the gun turret of RIO -and not as telled in the book
a shooting arrangement with ship artillery.
If there are questions about the pictures from the commuity- ask ask ask.
I will try to explain everıthing.
Nevertheless i must tell , that in the main factoryhall where the great cannon barrels
where finished- is a disco today i have danced allready upon twenty years ago.
It was one of the only buildings which survived the bombs of the last world war.
Overviewing-pictures of the fabrication-area are too big for scanning but somehow
if there is need i will manage to do it anyway.

By for now and thanks for your regarding

Gerd

Marvellous stuff, thank you Gerhard!

The fifth image, with the Kaiser's party in front of a twin turret (28 April 1892) looks like a 28cm turret from a Brandenburg class battleship (see below).

Touche !
That comes from beeing too lazy going to the board and looking into Hans Mehls book.
here is the picture i`ve had in mind.
it has the whole turtle-form as we see- and the caliber was 305mm.
Today it is a national monument and a museum. But i think that is nothink new for you.

Bye for now -and have a bomb -free night

Gerd

One  great thing of this forum is the response I have found from the colleagues .
I dedicate to Roger Todd and Mr. Dakk from Axis History Foum the modest result of my effort, since they helped me a lot.
It depicts a 38cm Skoda about to be changed from steam-driven transportation to Electric-Zug mode.
All the best, Eduardosmile

smileHello Eduardo and all the others of course!

Have picked up a good view on an Austro-Daimler C-Zug from 1915.
It is that artillery generator-waggon M16 often told here on board.
Didn`t even know if the pic does even exist so i put it on here.
I´m quite shure that the tranported barrel is from the Bertha -or am I wrong ?

sincerely
Gerd

I was wrong !
This "train " was used for Scoda -mortars . It had nothing to do with the Bertha.

sorry -better i read before i write !

Gerd,

Yes. the tube belongs to a Skoda gun. Nevertheles, the Krupp moster was indeed transported dissasembled by means of several carts.
A gun I would love to build.
Unfortunately I have never seen good drawings of this beast.

Hi Eduardo ,
See we have the same problems ! I still poker with measurements of the Gamma mortar.
Have only the barrel lenght : 6720mm and grooved barrell measure 5323 mm-cal.420mm
With this 3 facts i must do the whole drawing. Impossible ? Not even. I have seven good
pictures out of separate angels -but what i am doing here ? Telling a magnificent
modelmaker how to construct models? Excuse me please.
Isn`t there any help from Kenneth Musgrave ?
Here a page from the book of Franz Kosar : The Heavy Guns of the World.
That are the only facts i have of the M-gerät as Bertha was called right.
Don`t hit me but is the described way nothing for you ? When you take the pictures of
Landship and probably some of your own archive there must be enough fixpoints for
modelmaking i think.

Good luck
Gerd

Hi Not a Turret , but a Hooded barbette originally these replaced turrets and allowed the guns to be raised higher above the waterline which meant they were able to operate in rougher seas, imagine if you will an armoured tower with the guns on top , the adoption of mgs and small qf guns meant that some form of protection was required by the crew hence the hood which is only small arms and splinter proof a direct hit would easily penetrate the armour.....

The rather large openings for the guns is not intended to extend range by elevating the guns, but so the breach block can be lowered below the armoured deck of the barbette for loading, this could usually only be done with the guns facing fore and aft which meant that the rate of fire was extremly slow as you had to rotate the guns from the target position to the loading position......etc

later still turrets were combined with barbettes......

Cheers
