Although very similar in appearance, this is not a B Type.  It is a Daimler CC bus.  The radiator shape and the D prefix to the number on the bonnet side give it away.

Welcome Gordon to the Forum, I have to admit I know zilch about buses, except they tend to come in threes. That is the bus Airfix loosely based thier model on, B340. the LGOC logo is almost viewable in the photo. I believe it's at LTM.

Chris.

Lincoln Tanker,

Thanks for your reply.

My posting referred to an earlier message from Kieffer that showed a photograph of a MET Daimler CC bus.  It just happened that my message followed the posting on the AEC B Type and caused confusion instead of preventing it!

These buses were used in September 1914 to transport British Marine expeditionnary force from Ostend to Antwerp. They came too late and then returned to France. A well documented article was once published in Tank Museum News, several years ago. Go to the site of Musée Royal de l'Armée and one should find the link to the publisher, the Tank Museum asbl.

Gemsco

There's a new book out on buses in WW1: Destination Western Front - London's Omnibuses Go to War by Roy Larkin.

More details here:  http://www.historicroadways.co.uk/dwf.html

My copy arrived yesterday - a worthy addition to the library.

Greetings.  The Airfix B-type bus is pretty accurate, but yes, the wheels benefit from being thinned down a bit.  Then you have to ask yourself, are the passengers or the driver the size you want to go with?  If you decide to use the driver, he needs a right hand. For some reason, Airfix have just given him a peg.  You may be lucky enough to track down the Preiser 1/32 Railway passengers.  They are PERFECT for the 'bus, and fit on the seats properly.  The Airfix passengers are a bit small, but put them inside, no-one will notice.  If you put the passengers outside, saw up a 1/35 WW11 figure from Tamiya or one of the many East European companies producing excellent figures these days.  If you want to make him an Army driver - good luck with the conversion!  Tamiya's WW11 Tommies provide tin hats, knapsacks, bayonets, rifles and things, but the uniform is hard work with model-filler to get him right.  Who knows, Airfix may re-issue the WW1 version of the kit for the 100th. anniversary next year.  That included some Tommies, which, with work, were quite passable figures.  Enjoy!  It's a good kit. biggrin
