Leicestershire Regiment Museum WWI exhibits

Went over to the Leicestershire Regiment museum today to have a look at the WWI items, here's my photos

A brodie helmet, damaged at the Somme - not sure what the chain mask is about, i've only seen chainmail on the tank crew face masks, and that was below the eyepieces

An early brimless Brodie, like mine

German helmet and field telephone

German maxim machine gun - the inscription reads

'Captured by the 2nd batallion (17th) the Leicestershire Regiment near Richebourg L'avoue during a night attack on the German trenches on the 19th December, 1914'

Officers cap

Most if not all of the Leicestershire batallions on the western front took part in the battle of Cambrai in 1917 - this is the 1st Batallion with Mk IV male tank 'Hyacinth'. For some reason the BBC caption it as a German tank, stuck in a trench at a place called Hyacinth, in 1914!

Captured Pickelhaube

Rat catcher dog

Not WWI but I really liked this exhibit - an eagle taken from the Sebastopol by privates of the Leicestershire Regiment

Two SMLE's, one with the grenade cup attachment

Regimental standard

The last photos are of the recreated trench in the museum

Dear Sir,
The picture which you title 'Regimental standard' is in fact 'The Queen's Colour of
1st Bn The Royal Leicestershire Regiment'.
