British WWI infantry equipment
Permalink

As I was unpacking my WWI equipment now i'm back in London, thought i'd photograph it to show how my impression is getting along - as it stands now, I have everything I need, except for my SD trousers and tunic, and the greyback shirt. I have RN deck boots but currently awaiting a pair of Lennon B5 boots, so i'll use those for best, and the deck boots for bad conditions

Here's my webbing - it's all Schipperfabrick except for the belt, which is a 1916 original (Thanks to 4th Worcester for the swap). It's a tight fit, but I managed to get the webbing to stretch slightly to fit the entrenching tool/bayonet scabbard (originals), water bottle (Pegasus) and to fit three clips of .303 in each pouch. Just thought i'd check - is the bayonet in the right position? Also, is there a certain way the shoulder straps at the rear are supposed to cross over, ie should right be over left?

SBR and bag (Schipperfabrick), rimless Brodie and khaki drill cotton cover (both Military History Workshop), Putties (don't know the source - thanks to Ypres Tommy for those, when I wrapped them around my leg I was pleased with how thin my leg looks!), Housewife (shame it doesn't do the washing up, ho ho) and ration bag (both Pegasus). Small pack is Schipperfabrick, and the rusty mess tins and cover are Motion Picture Props

Trench cap (Military History Workshop, fits beautifully) with original Leicestershire Regiment badge, 90 round leather bandolier (original), kit bag (Pegasus), cut throat razor (thanks to Nigel for that), PH gas hood and bag (Military History Workshop), driving/flying goggles (original), 'LEICESTER' shoulder titles (original, thanks to Chris Bell for one of them, and 4th Worcester for the split pins), and an original rimless Brodie that seems to be different from any other Brodie i've handled (thanks to my Grandma for buying that many many years ago and letting me have it as a play thing!)

Hopefully should be receiving the rest of my items in the next few weeks, and them i'm all ready for an event at the RAF Museum at Hendon, and then it's off to Zonnebeke

Lovely uniform items! Wish I had a set too! I only have a helmet in my collection. The trench cap is nice, where can I find somthing like that? how much does it costs? I have a rather nice repro chinstrap for an officer's peaked cap, and I may get a RFC officer cap badge at one time or another....

I got mine from Military History Workshop, at £38 I thought it was a very good price. The website is http://www.militaryhistoryworkshop.co.uk , can take a while to deliver as items are hand made.
