Hi thought I would start a new thread about these Australian Dummy Tanks...
"used successfully by the 4th Australian Division in the attack on Le Vergieur in September 1918."
Apparantly ten were built each supported by huge wheels and manned by six crew, were able to easily move the quarter ton dummys over the boggy ground and trenches, in the event only one was disabled and two crew slightly wounded by MG fire.......
Hi All, I was rather hopeing that someone out there may know more about this action any input would be appreciated...is this the only use of dummy tanks in actual combat?, I cant think another, static dummys used to decieve are many and varied....But in Battle?......
Hello Ironsides and Phil -also the others of course,
found a pictureof a german dummy - a try of scratchbuild Mark IV type i think. Described as exercise tank only for training use . But interesting stuff Ironsides - i allways thought Erwin Rommel was the first one who used these "tactic" . Maybe he had knowledge of the raid you've told here but it is very unlikely.
Everytime it's fine to find here new aspects of war
in this sense Best regards Gerd
