You cant satisfy everyone can you....

Anyhow, both Rodens managment and I agreed upon 1/35. The reason for this is that its possble (albeit not perfect) to combine an aircraft in 1/32 with a vehicle in 1/35 but to combine two vehicles (or aircraft!) in different scales isent possible.
In this way its possible to attract both airplane as well as armourkit modellers.
But be patient, 1/48 and 1/72 kits are being planned.

I was just joshing with ya, mate! I think it's great that this vehicle is going to be made in plastic, sometime this decade. And even though I don't have the room for 1/35 1/32, I know that a lot of people prefer the larger models. I sort of figured that Roden, after putting in all the effort to make the master and moulds etc, would scale it down to 1/72 sooner or later, because that is another large market and would fit nicely with their 1/72 planes.

I am a bit excited as well, because maybe more people will be persuded to make WW1 armour models (even though this particular kit is the 1920 pattern).

Thanks for the news of course in 1/72 I expect to see at least 3 variants 1914, 1920 and 1940... Roden have done it with their other models so why not....

Cheers

I dont know if they will do different versions.
To do an earlier version with spoked wheels we need pe spokes and Roden hasent made much pe, but who knows....
Concerning later versions with wide dunlop sandtyres, I dont know either since this market may be a bit more narrow.....
Anyhow I am sure we will se the aftermarketproducers do this items.
The 1940 variant is a totally different vehicle (everything is different, hull, turret etc) so I dont see this one coming.
Also; Im sorry if  my post was a bit "grumpy", this was not my intention... smile.gif

Help me to understand the reasoning here;   Roden has a superb series of 1/32 scale WW1 aircraft that continues to grow in popularity,  and now they've decided to compliment that series with vehicles.   However, they will be in a smaller scale,  but somehow still deemed compatible to the aircraft. ( I can just see how compatible the SE5 mechanic will be standing next to the RR.  He will appear to be 7 feet tall ! )

Forgive me, but the logic for this decision escapes me....   You may gain a few 1/35 armour modelers, but likely lose more potential sales from the 1/32 builders who have been supporting the series.   Remarkable....

Erik, you weren't at all grumpy, mate.

The Rolls is pretty difficult to do, I guess, because of all the different variations. I can find photos of Rollers in 1940 that clearly still have the 1914 armour, albeit on probably a different chassis. And then there are the ones that are clearly all-new. Different turrets, cupolas, etc etc.

HOWEVER...

if they can make 20 million different Tiger tanks, Sherman tanks, and halftracks, then I dont think it should be impossible to make 2 or 3 kits of the Roller, each kit maybe having some alternative parts. This is after all, the longest serving armoured car in the entire history of the universe!

Michel Boer of Black Lion Decals might possibly be interested in making PE spoked wheels etc. Obviously I can't speak for him; but it has been discussed in previous threads.

I knew this complaint would appear, as I said earlier you cant satisfy everyone.
The number of AFVmodellers that actually will buy a 1/35 armourkit is estimated to be larger than the number of aircraftmodellers that will NOT buy a 1/35 armourkit.
Makes sence to me at least and obviously to Roden as well.
Figurewise, we have figures in 1/35 wich are "wellbuilt" like Miniart and TANK fex while we have the "smalller boys" from Tamiya etc so I dont see this as a problem.
I sometimes even crosskit 1/32 figures ( Airfix multipose legs) and 1/35 figures (Tamiya and Warrior torso) and as long as you match the parts/figures well this can work, but you have to be careful.

Hi.

Concerning the 1924 and 1940 pattern, this was a totally new armoured body and different turret, afaik the 1924 pattern was christened 1940 pattern after receiving the new open (F-N)turret.
If you check out the MSN page on RAF Armouredcars you can see the Cherrypickers RRs, there is one photo of one that is turned on its side wich clearly shows the different bonnet fex.

And yes, there were earlier RRs in service during 1940 as well, there were at least one in RAF service in NA were it has been photographed with Rommel besides it (it is paited in Caunter btw), there are also photos of RAF cars in Iraq.
There were also RR serving in Great BRitain and Ireland.

I do not meen Fordsons when talking about RRs, RAF had most of their RRs in NA/Iraq converted by using Fordsonchassiesm but thats something else.

What we may see from Roden in the future I suspect could be a 1914 car (lower turret) and maybe other wheels but otherwise I doubt it, but hey, I would love a Fordson!

And while I agree with you about the amount of Tigers etc, well, this is just the reality, money talks, it doesent matter how important a vehicle is, the majority out there are still more interested in Tigers, but to be honest, it IS getting better, isent it?

Oh yes! Much better indeed.

If this kit is made in 1/72 it will be a great basis for back dating, so just the one version is better than no version at all.

Maybe a photo etch 'add on' (whoever makes it) could include the 1914 driver/commander visor, and the 1914 radiator doors, as well as the spokes for the wheels. I can live with slightly too tall turret.

I hope they don't take as long to scale it down as Emhar have with their Mark V (no, I havent heard any rumours; just wishful thinking!), or as long to make it a reality in 1/35 as Emhar have with their Schneider!

Well, Roden have always been my "Big White Hope" when it comes to opening up the Plastic market bigtime for WW1 Military models. As their WW1 Aero effort is second to none!

But their Military effort has always been a bit feeble...

Anyway: I'm that sort of guy that is ready to greet ANY new WW1 Military plastic kit, regardless of scale and subject. This IS good news, and hopefully they will turn out 1/72 scale RR's eventually.

But right now I have some of my hopes set on ACE, actually. Not for any real reason - as they are pretty firmly entrenched in the old Wehrmacht rut - except that they have turned out two really FIRST RATE WW1 artillery kits.

The 76.2mm Putilov m/00 in a AA mounting is actually even better than their m/02, with some very good PE to go with the gun! Expect a review pretty soon.

Soooo, perhaps we should all start to lobby ACE now? wink

I understand that ACE is run primarily by one guy, and very competently so. They do short-run kits, easier and cheaper to do than the old standard high pressure moulds, and therefore not as much as a gamble...

This is really great news ... I know there are some who would bemoan the choice of scale, but 1/35 makes a lot of sense.

The 1920 Pattern is a good choice, as you can make any car used from 1920 to 1943-ish - with a change in tires and some other parts.  The 1914 Pattern isn't that much harder to make, although you have to lower the turret, change the front wings and of course, spoked wheels.  The Fordson is a completely different animal.

Anyway, I did have to move the RAF ACC site from MSN Groups to:

Love to see the RR being done in 1/72.
All the resin kits so far are in 1/76. So that means a year for plans and another until its relaeased if... and...or...
I'll definately turn an alcoholic!!!

Cheers (hic)!

Great to hear - any possible other WW1 kits from Roden? A Crossley tender would be very nice....

Hi!

Ive received testshots of the Rolls minus armour and turret.
There is a nicely detailed engine.
It looks nice in the box (bag!) and the details are god, some sinkmarks but nothing much.

Hi, Gentlemans!
My name is Alex, I'm from the Ukraine, and cooperating with Roden through many years. Now I'm prepearing decal options for the RR AC and have a question about the cockade on the turret, because never saw photos above the AC.  Blue, white and red painting, which clearly shown on the sides of the turret, still go on on the central section of the turret, or not?
 Many thanks in advance.
