Hi guys

I'm Patrick Mondria and I do some sculpting work for Retrokit.
Now I have being ask to sculpt a couple of Germans with a flamethrower. What type of flamethrower was more used the cylinder type (same as the m.16?) or the round type. One early war other late? Used at the same time.

thanks

Patrick

Hello, Patrick.

This project sounds like good news.

As I understand it, the Grossflammenwerfer and Kleinflammenwerfer were the earlier types, the latter being the two-man, cylinder type as shown in the HaT Heavy Weapons set. The Gfw was a static affair with a large crew.

The donut-shaped device was the Wex, and seems to have come into service in 1917. (The one in the Airfix set didn't exist) There are some pics here, and it's claimed that it wasn't a one-man item, although it looks compact enough to have been.

Can't find any evidence of numbers so far, but am investigating.

Hope this helps.

J
