latest Tank Zone has a very interesting article about the origins of the Schneider tank and separating the true Estienne input from others (Brillié, Schneider, Breton) Especially developped is the origins of the tracked vehicle concept which apparemently was NOT the early idea of Estienne (it seems, although no document is shown, that Estienne first thought was of personnal armour (or shields ? I don't think we are talking powered armour here... that's real life , not SF3D.... )
I don't think there is an English version for the mags. But it is probably worth it just for the pics : 12 period photos 5 patents 1 evolution chart 4 1/35 colour reconstructions
Just received my copy. Haven't plodded through the text yet, but there are excellent, new (to me) photographs and - an educated guess at what the elusive Levavasseur machine looked like. Not unlike the Russian 20-ton Reno-Russkiy. Pics are copyright, unfortunately.
All the indications are that the St. Chamond will be the next in the series.
