Dear All,

I would like to share with you my latest purchase for my collection. It is a Russian AC, captured by Germans (Bavarians).

The amazing thing is: look at the tires. Never seen such tires before.

Does anyone have some information about it?

Cheers
Chris

Chris
There is a similar photo in Fletchers War Cars with the caption"KT tyres studded tyres for driving on snow"
From your photo there doesn't seem to be much snow!!!!

I can help biggrin

This is Austin 2nd Series, named "Oleg" from 36 Automobile-MG platoon of Russian Imperial army, captured by Germans in sommer 1917 in the Romanian front (South-West Russian front).
The Austin is no rebuilt, have british tyres and no MG-side-armour (many british Austins was in Russia rebuilt with new stark armour and have russian tyres from type  "Gussmatique").

36 Automobile-MG platoon have three armoured cars: 2x Austin 2nd ("Oleg" and "Vityaz") and 1x Garford-Poutiloff ("Bayan")

Chris, have you a big picture? I have others two pictures of "Oleg", also not so big.

Hi Ivan!

What do you mean by saying "big picture"? This is a scan of the photo I just owned. It is smaller than postcard size.

Are these tyres shown in the picture the "Gussmatique"-tyres? Can you tell us something about them?

Can you post the other pictures of "Oleg"?

I mean big scan in foul size minimum 300 dpi.

"Gussmatique" (Gussmatic) - these are Russian tyres (J. Guss's patent 1912, St.Petersburg), filled with a special chemical compound as foam, they held shots from weapon (rifle), but were lungs and allowed to go quickly as on pneumatic, and English tyres were from continuous rubber as at trucks, on them quickly it was impossible to go.
Other photos "Oleg" (only litle), Wheel of Austin with Gussmatic and advert of J. Guss.
