13cm K 09 in Topton, PA, USA
Permalink

Hi

I went and found the gun named that was thought to be a '10cm on Rohr Wagon' in Topton, PA, USA.

Surprise, the tube length, shape and diameter leaves no hesitation : that very nice gun is in fact a '13cm Kanone M1909', whose only other surviving item I knoz is in Wellington, New Zealand !

The tube is marked "FRIED KRUPP ESSEN AG - 1917 - Nr128". I suppose therefore that item was a late '13cm Kanone M1909 gef.' production, adapted for mechanical towing.

The re-enactors made a tremendous job, that gun could play in a WW1 film !

Some pictures hereafter. If you are interested, I have dozens of other, focusing on details.

I will definately be checking this piece out in October when I pass by the area. Could you post pics of the piece in Hamburg PA ? Or actually I guess they will be on your site.  The US has many WW1 guns however original limbers or wagons seem to be pretty rare. I scanned thru Dick Popes list and there appears to be only 2 more Rohr ? wagons in the US aside from the gun featured above in Easton. The 2nd one is in Aberdeen and the third one is number 278 on Dicks list which he describes as being a K16L40 + Rohr Wagon. Both the wagon and the cannon type I would imagine are pretty rare. After googling like crazy I did manage to find one photo of it which I have posted. The location of these pieces is in Prairie DeRocher - Illinois - USA.

Hi Michael

I will post the Hamburg LFH16 pictures this week-end on both this forum and my websites. My 'policy' has always be to maximize the sharing of my discoveries and pictures !

You won't regret your visit in Easton, that gun is amazing.

Concerning the 15cm K16, that very good gun is quite rare, indeed. As far as I know, there is only 4 surviving such guns :

In Australia, Canberra (unhopefully, I only got poor resolution pictures) :

In Canada, Saskatoon, SK (on Rohr Wagon !)

In USA, Dayton, VA : I am going to visit this gun in the next weeks ! Can't wait !

In USA, Prairie De Rocher, IL, see your picture

I would gladly welcome any good resolution pictures of the Sydney and Illinois ones !

Friendly

Bernard

Gentlemen,   The Prairie du Rocher item is in relatively good condition; lacking only the forward elevation shield.  This mechanism guard is present on the Aussie version though.   The rohrwagen is indeed rare,  and this example is unique in that it is fitted with late-war wooden wheel spokes rather than the common all-steel versions.

I might ad the Virgina piece is complete with the carraige travel limber,  and is displayed at maximum elevation with the trail up on the limber.

Do you have any pictures of any of the above mentioned pieces that you could post or send to Bernard for his web site?

Indeed I do.    I'll try to dig them up and post here later.

Referencing the 13cm K09 again;  two of them are displayed on the isle of Guernsey,  and another resides in Uganda of all places.   This is particularly remarkable in view of their limited numbers produced,  though they served in all theatres to include Palestine.

Hey how come when you guys post pictures it comes up in a larger format that you dont have to click on but when I upload a picture it shows up as a small window which you have to click on? There must be something that I am not doing!
