Bidding has closed - the image is being taken down. If you're quick enough and click in just the right spot you can currently grab it when it momentarily displays as the page first loads. I grabbed an image reference/image for most of it (or the important part of it) as http://i.ebayimg.com/13/!Bm1W2%29!BGk~$%28KGrHqIH-EQEtq40uHeZBLhEsY7Ps!~~_12.JPG but no saying how much longer that will be there.

The image is a commercial property, I suppose we can't very well copy it, no matter how intriguing it is.

Thanks Sid, it did work, Richard Pullen (Landships of Lincoln) tells me 'This is actually a Lincoln made Mk IV that was destroyed at the Third Battle of Ypres in 1917 and ended up on show in the square in Ypres itself until the Germans arrived again in WW2 and scrapped it.'

Ahh!

Then I think it is the same tank shown in this image from the MKIV page of this fantastic web site! (notice the damage just forward of the sponson)

Yes Sid, the lack of bottom axles and the missing bearing plates on the rear horns also  help to confirm it.

Good find,

Chris.

Talking of non-bellicose uses, has the "tank bank" been mentioned before?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/worldwars/wwone/gallery_tank_04.shtml

Well, perhaps just a little understated aggravation - "In South Wales, the Tank Banks were used not just to sell war bonds, but to stir up a tank patriotism that could be turned against miners who opposed the war and were taking their lead from the peace proposals made by Leon Trotsky and Vladimir Lenin following the Bolshevik takeover of Russia in November 1917."
