Does anybody know where I can get a model of the Simplex rail loco featured in Mike Cooper's model link to this website, and in the Great War (Warhammer Historical) Site built by Dave Andrews?
It is a small open-topped locomotive that pulls ammunition. Mr. Cooper's pictures seem to portray the identical crew, cargo, etc. that Mr. Andrews has integrated into his incredible WWI Wargaming Battlefield. This leads me to believe it is a kit in 1:48 or O Gauge scale.
I'd appreciate any help from anybody. My next move is probably to send a letter to the two gentlemen if I can somehow find their addresses.
Thanks in advance to anybody with any information!
I'm sure Baldwin will give you a much better answer when he's back, but in the mean time...
We found a couple of kits, some time ago, in 4mm (1/72 1/76 ish) scale, but I can't remember exactly where. Also they were not complete kits because, for mysterious reasons, railway modellers like their models to come from 3 or 4 different suppliers (wheels from Chorlton, engine from Ivor, body from Anita Roddick, etc).
BK Modelcraft, who also made the Holt and 8 inch howitzer etc, made a simple model of the open topped 20hp Simplex, not 100% accurate like the Nigel Lawton one but a lot cheaper! Now that Matador Models has taken over the BK Modelcraft range, maybe they'll reissue the Simplex as well, I certainly hope so as it'd be a useful little model, i've got one as well as a couple of the 40hp Armoured Simplex's
009 not James Bond especially when you see Narrow Gauge enthusiasts (me included !!!!) but it refers to 00 scale and the track is 9mm apart. The scale is 4mm=1foot somewhere between 1/72 and 1/76. There is a lot of 1 War kits out there, the Lawton Simplex is made up of etched brass and is a fairly complex kit and requires the ability to use a soldering iron. But it is motorised. If you need any more infi. on the Light railways then get in touch.
Thanks very much. I am impressed with the generous sharing of detailed knowledge. I can't thank you enough! Appreciate your time and trouble on my behalf.
