I know this is OT ie preWWI but you people have come up with the goods before!

I have searched the archives for a mention, but whilst there is a passing reference in one thread, no details were provided.

A book on the Hong Kong Royal Artillery (Denis Rollo. The Guns & Gunners of Hong Kong. HK, 1991) says that part of the RGA Siege Train sent from South Africa 'landed at Kowloon and with it were two 9.45-inch (240mm) Skoda howitzers which had been purchased for the war in South Africa.

What I am seeking is technical data on these guns and hopefully a photo...

Many thanks for any help anyone can give. (Its still for the Book on the BU - credit will be given)

...perhaps you allude to the kuK 24cm M98 Morser.   It preceded the famed 30,5cm Morser,  and broke down for travel into three loads much the same way.   It comes as a surprise to me if this weapon system went to China;  unless it was for battle testing ( the same circumstance under which the French "75" was employed there).

Thanks for the response - I must have missed subscribing to the tread and did not know there had been an answer. I imagine that this was the case - to give them a test in campaign conditions. Now I will search for stats on this kuK 24cm M98 Morser - can anyone help?

As an aside, as well as the French 75, the Russians trialled their QF field gun in China & Manchuria too.
